This is one of the most famous photographs of all time and you just might happen to know it. Doisneau is all about human beings in France that are captured during an exquisite moment, very often with a lot of comedy in it. He is a real master in his work, because he always achieved to make the scene authentic. This instant was captured while he was sitting at a café in front of the Hotel de Ville in Paris (see background). Wow! But wait, in fact, this scene was set up as he was forced to admit years later when two adults sued him for being the kissing couple. They were models. Does that mean that Doisneau work is less worth? On the contrary I believe…

  1. Exquisite capturing of a moment in time – whether posed or not. What matters is the emotion evoked in the eyes of the viewer. What a talented photographer! Black and white (with shades of grey) reflect all the extremes of light and dark, as well as the extremes of moods, positive and negative. RIP Robert Doisneau

    1. Hey,
I totally agree. Doisneau is one of the photographers that inspired me a lot eventhough I never quite followed his style myself. The fact that this shot is actually posed make it in my opinion even more impressive because his pictures just look so authentic. A true master!

  2. Beautiful picture (even if it is posed). My first thought was that the young man looks really handsome and then I realized he’s probably passed 80 years old or dead by now. And this somehow makes the picture even more amazing because with this he will forever be in his 20s.

    1. Hmm. That’s a very interesting point you have. I wonder what happened to these two people. They probably never thought that this kiss would go down in the history of photography.
